River Heights Basement
This family has a son who was getting older and a new dog, who both needed a bit more space. They had an unfinished, underutilized basement that needed some love. Our customer is a distinguished artist who has been featured at the Winnipeg Art Gallery, the 303 Gallery in New York as well as world-wide! He had a studio in the basement but wasn’t as organized and finished as he wanted. We converted a second floor TV room into his studio and moved all of his equipment upstairs. Then, back to the basement finishing! First, we tackled the brick “fireplace” in the corner. It was a solid structure that needed to go. We finished the walls, added a drop ceiling, lots of potlights, added some heat vents (!), changed the entrance to the basement. The doors to the new closet/storage area under the stairs as well as the one into the basement were custom-made with gorgeous hardware. The flooring included dry core basement subfloor, a fabulous thick pad and lush carpet. Super nice to walk on and warm! Lastly, the bathroom was added. There was a bit of plumbing down there but we needed to jackhammer the floor and run new lines. The clean lines of the bathroom suit the whole space well. A custom-made glass shower surround lends well to the clean lines. Very happy how the space turned out. Now everyone has a bit more space to work and play, including Charlie (the cute dog!)
